May 7th 2016: The Dapper Suit Guide for Any Occasion
Got a summer internship or a new job that requires professional attire? Or maybe you just want to know how to benefit from versatile suits. Navy is a favorite of mine, mainly because it looks the best with brown and burgundy shoe and you can do so much with a simple navy suit. You can wear the same suit everyday and just change-up the accessories and it will be a completely different outfit. Here's how (Shop each look at the bottom of this page!):
Start with a suit: Look at what you have, out of all mine Navy is my favorite. You can wear them several times before dry cleaning.
Shirt: Blue or white are my favorites. I love the 1MX Shirts from Express. Invest in a lot of dress shirts. It is okay and HIGHLY recommended you have several of the same white or blue shirts. I love stripes and polka dot dress shirts, expect to see a lot of polka dot shirts around this summer. Combo it like Bieber did on the GQ cover and you will be one of the most stylish gents in any room you're in.
Tie: Be sure it goes well with your suit and the occasion, if you are wearing a pinstripe suit don't pull out a polka dot tie. Paisley can be fun but a neon green paisley tie is not appropriate at a funeral. Consider the environment you're in. If you are going to a benefit, try to match the colors. If you are going to a breast cancer event wear a pink tie! Also width, I'm a skinny tie only kind of guy which means I wear ties with widths of 2.5 or 3 inch.
The two outfits above have the same everything except tie, and see how different they are. Navy suits are very versatile.
Shoes and socks: Match your socks and your tie :) The crazier the better. Also, if you haven't invested in a quality pair of dress shoes, do it. They can get pricey but they are an investment, if you take good care of them they will last you a long time. Just look at those Johnston and Murphy and Allen Edmonds! With a navy suit I recommend brown or burgundy shoes.
